T430 would not boot from mSata if hdd is installed

#1 Post by bfzhou1225 » Sun Jan 19, 2020 7:57 pm

Greetings...

A year ago, I installed a 250GB mSata card in the internal slot on my T430 laptop, and removed the standard 250GB HDD. Now the mSata drive is filling up, I bought a 250GB SATA SSD drive for the standard bay. But the system would not boot from the mSata drive even when I set the BIOS to boot only from that drive. The system simply hangs, forcing me to remove the SATA drive. It seems if the system always want to boot from the standard bay if a device is installed. If it doesn't has a bootable image, the system just hangs.

Can someone who has both mSata and standard HDD bay occupied share if this is an issue, and how it can be overcome?

thanks much for sharing your insight!

Ben

Could it be because one has MBR (Legacy) and one has GPT (UEFI) and that the BIOS wants to use UEFI over the Legacy? Try setting the BIOS settings to Legacy only and UEFI only and see if there is any difference.
