You've seen kickstarters and indigeogo's for wireless displays in the $500+ price range

Screw that!

Introducing the first (I've come across anyway) ThinkPad Wireless Full HD battery powered display v0.1 ***compatible with any miracast enabled device

Parts used (mostly off the shelf)
  • Full HD panel from my T480s left over from my WQHD upgrade in T450s housing I bought online
  • LCD Driver board (2 lane eDP to HDMI)
  • 5V-to-12V USB step up converter to power LCD driver board
  • Microsoft Wireless Display adapter v2 (miracast)
  • Anker Powercore 13000 powerbank *** the wires you see are the 5V-to-12V step up converter needed to power the screen
In version 2 I will probably try to get a nicer casing 3D printed for the eDP driver board, shorten the USB power cable, and get a thinner anker powerbank like the Powercore Slim USB C PD 10000mAh
In version 3 I might see if I can find a driver board to power my WQHD 1440p panel inside my T480s now. If it works, I'll buy a 4K panel for the T480s and swap out the WQHD. As a test, I'll see if I can find a compatible 4K driver board for the panel. A few exist, but they're rather expensive ($70ish) and they aren't necessarily compatible with all 4K 4-lane eDP panels

Stay tuned for more!
