#1 Post by gianry » Fri Mar 27, 2020 3:46 pm

Hi, I'm searching a good ultrabook like the Txxx series but my by budget is more or less eur 300
I've found some refurbished T440 or T450 notebook.
Please could you help me to understand which is the best price performance ratio product ?

thanks

I prefer to say go for T450 (touchpad T440 users will understand.) And T450 comes with 5th gen intel CPU. But which one tou want T4x0 or T4x0s? For 300 you can catch even T460.

I would recommend the T450 with the touchscreen and a backlit keyboard .....and a fingerprint scanner if you need one. The T450 has 2 ddr slots to take in 32gb (16gbx2) while the T440 only has 1 slot and the CPU can only handle 8GB (not even a single 16gb card). The T450 also has a better trackpad than the T440. The 450 also has 8Gb of shared video ram vs 2GB of from the T440.I would stay clear of the T460 as the M.2 slot cannot be used for a dual SSD setup. The T470 has no VGA port if you would need the rig for projectors but it has an HDMI port for flat screens while the T450 has a VGA port and a mini display port for an HDMI adaptor. The T450 has a glossy screen while the T470 has a matte screen for outdoors. The T450 has many used cheap batteries for sale so you can bring a few batteries to swap on a long international flight. For your budget, just go for a T450.

to be clear, the HD Graphics 5500 will not allow such an amount to be allocated unless there is 16 GiB of RAM installed. this also only applies if the T450 is running Windows 10, if it's running Windows 8.1/8 or 7, it will only allocate up to 3840 MiB and 1794 MiB (1.7 GiB) respectively. it's stated here at Intel's FAQ page regarding this subject: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... ivers.html, https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... ivers.html, https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... ivers.html
send me a PM if you need something added or changed in the ThinkWiki, i might not be active all the time so please be patient

You can swap by your self with high res display. Lenovo provides service manual and parts manual on own website. If you catch good deal on ebay where ever take it. You need matte display for outdoor using. Well "s" series ar slim version. Almost very close to X1 Carbon. Thinkpad T4x0s comes with one soldered ram and one free slot. I have T480s and it has sim slot, sdcard, usb-c, USB3.x, LTE sim slot, FP and Smartcard slot. So if you compare with normal T480 no difference.
