New (to me) T530

#1 Post by cadillacmike68 » Fri Apr 03, 2020 1:00 am

OK, I ended up getting a T530, a 2392-49U, it 2.9GHz, 16GB RAM, 500GB SATA HDD, 1600x900 screen. A 1920-1080 would have been too expensive and the text is too small for me. DVDRW, Camera, AGN wireless (no AC, but I might add one later), fingerprint reader, the usual. I got it with win 7 pro 64 (COA in W7 Pro 64). I will back it up, and install W10 pro on it but will keep the W7 HDD.

Observations, Decent case, text is barely readable, so I'll have to bump it up in winblows and the browser. This is why a FHD screen isn't worth it to me.
It came with a DVDRW, but I'll probably get a BRD writer and a few HDD trays. This thing is supposed to be a little thicker and should take 12mm HDDs, but most now are only 9mm, even 1TB and 2 TB drives! Same charger as the T61 / T500, but the batteries are different.

No ThinkLight ?!?
Keyboard is Ok, but not as good as T61 or T500

It is Supposed to be a factory install, but NO recovery disk options so I'll have to get those and make discs, or by from Lenovo, if they still sell them. The boot up didn't have the ThinkPad trademark black screen either and it defaulted to the silly windows 7 blue sky and flower - bleh. No theme options for TP classic like the T510 series has. It does have the battery maximizer tool, but no Access manager (which many here do not like). And it does say Lenove on the control panel system screen.

I'll back this HDD up, then I'll restore to a spare 500GB HDD (twice) and use one for the W10 and keep the other in the cabinet. I'll then run the recovery discs on this HDD and see what that gives me. If I like the result I'll keep that build.

I'm thinking of getting a couple SSDs 250, 320 or 500GBs Is there any caveat when restoring an acronis image off a platter drive to an SSD?

Will a WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB Internal PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s, 2.5"/7mm, WDS500G2B0A work in the T530 and do I need any adapter cable, or will it just connect to the drive bay connectors?
