T25 keyboard EC flash + T480 advanced menu questions

#1 Post by H-Atkinson » Fri Apr 17, 2020 12:29 am

Im finally getting all of the parts in to build my own T480 + T25 frankenpad (T26??). Im getting ready to start building, but had some questions regarding the keyboard EC flashing.

So far, my understanding is that only one person has actually figured out the EC patching that has to be done to make the keyboard behave properly with a T480. He explains what was remapped, however never talks about some of his pictured hardware modifications. His remaps also list the media keys, and he claims they work. Does anyone here know what is going on with this? https://old.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comme ... 25th_7row/

Bonus points if anyone can figure out how he got the BIOS advanced menu working. It shows that he unlocked the WWAN whitelist, and is clearly custom (reporting as "UEFI BIOS Version T4807ROW (2.00 )" which also carried over to the EC version). An advanced tab is listed, and he claims it has CPU tuning stuff, and describes it as a BIOS-level intelXTU. No photos of advanced menu.

He has told me that he cant answer these questions. Im hoping some here may have some info, or understand whats going on.

Thanks.

EDIT: If anyone needs my bill of materials, or has any questions about where to get certain parts, let me know.

I'm afraid Leokim is way beyond most people's paygrade.

I recently flashed my T480/T25 Hybrid an unlocked BIOS following this guide. Just needs a CH341A flasher with an SOIC8 clip, these things are dirt cheap.
I'm still looking for a method to flash the EC, i even have a spare T480 mainboard for testing (although i also have nearly all the parts to build a second T480/T25 hybrid, the clickpad has not arrived yet). I am currently missing the SVOD3 Programmer, but i would only buy it after i got the decryption/encryption software for the EC firmware.

Check the background of the EC-mod on the xx30 models to bypass the battery-check and allow 7-row xx20 keyboards in them.

Thanks for the info, Id completely forgotten to check up on this thread...

Could you share the unlocked BIOS you flashed? According to LeoKim, BIOS unlocks and KB matrices happen on the same EC chip, so theoretically it may actually be simpler than I originally thought.

Thanks!

Are there any developments in the EC flashing work? I have a T25 that I want to upgrade. I can contribute to the efforts if someone is currently working on it.

I use Windows, and without the correct FN keys, I don't see a point in the 7-row keyboard.
