T430 heatsink & fan

I've got three T430 and upgraded one with an i7-3632QM a couple of years ago. The other two have an i5-3320M and an i5-3210M. I'm going to upgrade the i5-3210 to an i7-3632QM. Last time I re-used the existing heatsink/fan, this time I thought I'd replace the heatsink/fan to try and get maximum cooling. But what I see on the web is confusing.

The modding guide, https://medium.com/@n4ru/the-definitive ... ff3f6a8e2e, suggests using the heatsink/fan for the dedicated GPU (which I haven't got) = a bit more copper.

Lenovo Thinkpad T430 and T430i have different fan replacement versions.Our Fan has a 5 PIN connector on it.Others may have 3-pin or 4 -pin or 6-pin connector on it.

No idea how many pins on the existing fan connector and it is quite a lot of work to take a T430 apart to get at the CPU/heatsink to find out. What is the 'best' heatsink/fan to get that is compatible (# of pins)?

the faan your are looking at in ebay is a delta fan they are slower.toshiba is the one on the guild.im running now on my t430 i7 3612 qm with standard delta fan no heat issue.but im upgrading to i7 3840 i have ordered delta and tashiba fan gpu type from aliexpress i found them cheaper there .this is one one in the guide toshiba https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001359 ... 4c4dc9wRcd .i will let you know how i get on with heat but might take a while there on slow boat from china .i hope that helps you regards

regarding pins i only know of 2 fans but im no expert.toshiba delta when i upgraded x220 one pin was not used on motherboard so you could fit delta or toshiba fan.toshiba has a extra pin and 2 screw holding fan in delta has 3 screws holding fan in .let me know how you get on regards

Apologies for the tardy reply, other stuff got in the way. Thanks for the replies and info, I'll see if I can find a toshiba fan closer to home (20-40 days delivery on aliexpress - how do you tell the difference between toshiba and delta fan (I can see the maker's name in the photo on the ebay item and looking at others on ebay have found toshiba - looking at the photos seems the only way)?

I recently upgraded the CPU in my T430 to an i7-3632QM. When I did so, I replace the stock cooler with this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CPU-Cooling-Fa ... 4113077339. This is the DGPU cooler with the Delta fan. Note that my T430 has an IGPU, but the cooler works fine. I recall reading somewhere at the time that the DGPU cooler performed better than the IGPU cooler even on systems without a DGPU.

I strongly recommend the Delta fan. I don't have any heat issues on my T430. I originally had a Toshiba fan, and the noise was horrendous. The delta fan is barely audible.

toshiba has 2 screws holding fan in cooler.delta has 3 screws holding fan in.my fan took 9 days yes 9 days i was shocked.upgraded i7 3840qm and cooler .temps normal us 40 to 60 oc .stress test 89 to 91 oc.delta has 5 pin plug 4 pins used toshiba 5 pin plug 5 pins used board has 5 pin plug both work fine i was on standard delta fan .now i am using toshiba gpu type fan.
