when you insert the RAM at an angle, you should in most cases (other than some extremely worn ram slots) feel a click that the ram stick goes in, before you push the ram stick down and feel another click.
Also I don't recommend getting Chinese RAM for these machines as there are just far too many machines that use DDR3/DDR3L SODIMM sticks (in fact, almost a decade worth of machines) so compatibility is a wild question mark if you don't have branded RAM sticks.
