T490: Bluetooth Turned Off message, and "Device does not have Bluetooth"

#1 Post by hyde » Wed Jul 28, 2021 10:35 am

Hi friends, T490 on Win 10 64bit, stock bluetooth chip, I randomly lose BT connection, I thought it was my devices, but I found out Windows somehow loses visibility of Bluetooth.
Any suggestions?
It looks like this,

When I go to bluetooth settings to troubleshoot, I get this:

If you need any other information to help identify the issue please let me know.

I have a T490 although I rarely use Bluetooth. Does it show up in Device Manager?

Maybe try reinstalling the driver  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downlo ... -t490-t590

Hi Gary
It's not showing up there... Restarting brings BT connection back on but out of nowhere it stops working.

Hi RealBlackStuff
I don't use the unifying for these devices, you think Logitech is messing up the bluetooth setting in Windows?

Restarting brings BT back on:

Is there anything I can check to see what makes it "disappear" completely?

I wonder if this is the same issue that's causing my dad's X220 (with Windows 10) dropping off a Bluetooth speaker while it's playing audio.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

Does he use Logitech BT devices with or without dongle? How about docking station?

Using the X220's built-in Bluetooth. Currently in a Series 3 dock with 1 DVI port.
Not really relevant anymore though, as he brought out a 2.1 speaker system from storage, had me replace the volume potentiometers, and just plugged it to the analog audio jack.

Thank you very much Gary, but this is very frustrating... :(
Their suggestion:

1) Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

On Cortana's search box, type, "Troubleshooting" > left-click on the result > Hardware and Sound > open Hardware and Devices and follow the on-screen instructions.

2) Restart Bluetooth Support Service.

Press the Windows key + R, then type "services.msc". Once the Services window opens, locate Restart Bluetooth Support Service > right-click > Restart.

After so, right-click on it again, choose Properties, then ensure startup type is on Automatic.

Once done, please restart your computer and see if the wireless keyboard and mouse are functioning.
1) There is no Hardware and Sound option in troubleshooting, there is sound (which is not a problem I have) and there is Bluetooth, which I ran before and said no bluetooth adapter installed on the laptop.
2) I tried to restart all "bluetooth" related services, they restart fine but I still have "Bluetooth is Turned Off"

It's very annoying because I restarted my computer last night and it worked perfectly fine, same this morning, I put it to sleep came to office, put it on the dock, absolutely no problems until about half our ago.. My mouse stops moving, I check BT settings, and there we go, "Bluetooth is Turned Off" message and no way to re-enable it.

Does anyone know if BT is an adapter or soldered on, and if adapter could it be unseating somehow? If it did, wouldn't it give me a message in hardware/device manager "device removed".
Can I check any logs to see if something else causing this?

It's very very frustrating when it stops working in the middle of project and when I am in a position that I can't use a mouse.. :(

Check the BT Power settings in Device Mgr, if it is allowed to switch off to save power.
Untick that option.

That was one of the first things I thought of, but I don't even have Power Management tab.. :(

There is this suggestion:

Update, above suggestion from that website didn't help, USB option wasn't enough and I don't even think it's going into power saving mode, it just disappears from all settings. It's really strange.
All day I didn't have any issues, suddenly few hours ago it stopped working again.
