500GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus not working with T570 ?

#1 Post by 123434 » Thu Aug 19, 2021 9:49 am

Hello
Any idea if every brand of m.2 NVME is compatible with Thinkpad T570 ?
- Or are those approved coded in Lenovo BIOS ?
- You know "Whitelisted" SSDs is it possible ?

I tried to upgrade to a 500GB Samsung 970 Evo Plus m.2 nvme but I can't install Win10 to it with bootable USB-stick ISO(=media creation tool) of Win10.
- It gives [Error: 0x800701b1] at start of win10 installation when in disk section.
It previously had OEM 256GB Toshiba THNSN5256GPUK m.2 nvme.

- Drive is visible in BIOS.
- I have the latest 2021 BIOS v1.46 installed.

Datasheet of the T570= 20HAS0QB00 .

I just can not understand why OEM 256GB Toshiba THNSN5256GPUK works right away but 500GB Samsung 970 EVO plus does not ?

Is it true that Lenovo has blacklisted Samsung SSDs m.2 nvme or what is really going on in here ?
Why Samsung causes installation error [Error: 0x800701b1] with win10 usb bootable iso ?

I am thinking my next laptop won't be Lenovo branded. I feel so tired, cheated and frustrated.

No help.
I am now pretty much confident that Lenovo blacklist some SSDs in BIOS and whitelist others.
OEM 256GB Toshiba THNSN5256GPUK works right away but 500GB Samsung 970 EVO plus does not.

Only these listed m.2 2280 NVME OEM-drives should work. 512gb or 1024gb upgrade.
00UP435 1 512G,M.2,2280,PCIe3x4,INTEL,OPAL (What Intel brand type drive this is ?)
00UP437 1 512G,M.2,2280,PCIe3x4,SAM,OPAL (Samsung P)
00UP438 1 1024G,M.2,2280,PCIe3x4,SAM,OPAL (Samsung P)
00UP622 1 512G,M.2,2280,PCIe3x4,TOS,OPAL (Toshiba)
00UP642 1 512G,M.2,2280,PCIe3x4,TOS,OPAL (Toshiba)

Or 2nd M.2 2242-model.
00JT094 1 128G,M.2,2242,SATA6G,LTON,STD
00UP432 1 128G,M.2 2242 ,SATA6G,LION,STD

That means I can not even buy a 256GB Trancend 2242 m.2 as a 2nd drive for Wlan-cards place.
