Bizarre issue: memory slot is now crashing the laptop.
Bizarre issue: memory slot is now crashing the laptop.
Hello all! I was wondering if someone has faced this same issue before. Could you please give me some hints how to solve it?
- Machine: Lenovo Thinkpad T460s with 4GB internal RAM and a 4GB DDR4 memory stick, running Windows 10.
- I have been using this laptop for two years, never changed the configuration and never had any problems.
- Out of nowwhere, it started crashing and going blackscreen.
- After days of troubleshooting, I thought I identified the culprit as being the memory stick: by removing it the laptop works perfectly, by putting it back the crashes come back.
- Bought a brand new Crucial DD4 8GB RAM stick thinking that the problem would be solved, but for my suprise the problem is back: by removing the brand new memory stick the laptop becomes normal again.
So the old memory stick was not defective, as it seems, but the laptop simply decided it doesn't want a memory sticked inside him.
Anyone has a clue what could be causing that?
Thank you for your attention.

I just noticed that both of you live in Milan, Italy?
Another Italian (from Rome) had the same problem: viewtopic.php?t=131100
Coincidence?
Maybe move to another country?
Did you get DDR4 2400 or 2133 (same as the soldered)?
If you press on that RAM at various points, incl. the clamps, any better?
It seems that the T460s is prone to that memory error.

I read your topic. How did you end up solving the issue?
As I said initially, my T460s was already running with a 4Gb stick on the second slot with no problems whatsoever, until that day.
My new memory stick is a Crucial RAM CT8G4SFRA266 8GB DDR4 2666 MHz. It is a problem?
Anyway, I'm using it with just the internal 4Gb, very frustating.
