No sound from 3.5 mm jack on Series 3 Mini Dock

I am trying to connect a pair of analog headphones to the 3.5 mm port of a Mini Dock Series 3, but no matter what I do they do not show up on the docked PC. The headphones work fine, they are picked up as they should when I plug them directly into the PCs in the dock, but there is no audio through the dock no matter what I do.

Is there a solution to this problem, or will I need to get a DAC?

I recall such issues in the past. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for your audio device and your operating system.

Is this happening on one particular laptop/dock, or did you try different laptops/docks?

I have tried a number of combinations between three docks and five PCs running both Windows 7 and 10, and all PCs are fully up to date according to the Lenovo System Update. The issue however remains the same. I even tried a pair of old desktop speakers to check if the dock and the specific headphones in question was incompatible, but the speakers did not show up either.

According to Lenovo's 4337 overview:

ThinkPad L412, L512: ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 dock audio ports are inactive, ThinkPad audio ports are active.
ThinkPad L421 does not support ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3.
ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3: Does not support earlier ThinkPad models. Earlier ThinkPad models include: R60, R61, R400, R500, T60, T61, T400, T500, W500, Z60, Z61.
The ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 (433710U) is not compatible with the following notebook stands ( www.lenovo.com/support/stands ):

Three docks, five laptops, two operating systems and none of them work? That is quite bizarre.

Assuming the laptops are not all of the unsupported L series types (good catch, RBS!), are you absolutely sure you are plugging into the correct jack (green, not red)?
