T430/T530 win xp usb 3.0

Lenvo driver page states that usb 3.0 won't work with XP:

Do we know the spesific reason for this?

I'm planning to update one XP-desktop rig and the USB 3.0 would be crucial since it has an external usb drive. It wont see any networks, since I'll disable all of them. It serves one company which has legacy software which doesn't run even on Win7. Which sucks.

The answer is simple: Intel didn't make Windows XP drivers for its USB 3.0 controllers. You can still use the USB 2.0 ports just fine. As for the legacy program in question: have you tried running it in a virtual machine?

There is the possibility of using a USB3 adapter in the express card slot. XP drivers are available for these. I have used both Targus/Fresco and a generic adapter with the NEC 720202 controller.
They both work in XP but I find it is very difficult to get the adapter to stay in position when you insert or remove a USB key. I got best results by wedging the adapter in the correct position with a small screw to stop it moving backwards and forwards each time a USB key is inserted. Neither type works at true USB3 speeds but are still a lot faster than USB2.
Using with an external drive would remove the need to plug a cable in and out but I would still wedge in the card as they are spring loaded to pop out easily.
Where to begin......

Or, if you want onboard USB 3.0 and XP, get an X220/T420s/W520. These have the NEC uPD720200 controller, which does have XP drivers. But of course the CPU/GPU are older generation, and weaker, compared to a **30 series.
