Switching touch/non-touch LCD panels between 2 T460s machines?

#1 Post by ahmadNZ » Sun May 29, 2022 6:05 pm

Hi everyone,

I have ended up with 2 T460s machines. One with an i5-6300U processor and the other i5-6200U (is there any performance difference??).

The i5-6300U is cosmetically better but does not have a touch screen. The i5-6200U has a matte touch screen which I believe is one of the "in-cell" touch panels.

Can I switch the 2 displays between these two machines? I am assuming both are original Lenovo panels but cannot/do not know how to verify this.

If I can, are the connectors the same or would I need to have additional hardware?

Thanks for any help - is there any BIOS whitelist this model that I need to be concerned about?

Thanks,
Ahmad

Option 1: You can simply transplant the entire lid.

Option 2: Check the T460s FRU listing and see if there are significant differences between the touch and non-touch variants-- for example, if the FRU listing lists different LCD cables, bezels, etc. for touch and non-touch variants.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
