I recently bought a t480s form someone who broked the screen.
t480s, i5-8250u, 16go ram, 250go ssd, W10 then W11 working on it.
I decided to upgrade the screen to a WQHD one, following the instruction of @iamdmc.
So i receved my laptop with a broken screen as expected, i tried it with external screen and everything work fine ! The only thing i don't try yet was the power charger.
I plugged it in, and ... nothing the power button of the laptop flash but nothing. The led indicator of the laptop is off.
The charger unit (65w) is a chinese product oem not genuine one. I decided to try with an other usb-c charger not designed to be used for this laptop (charger of the pixel C tablet 15w).
And the laptop is recharging the battery, slowly but surely. The battery hold the charge pretty good.
I was wondering if the infamous Thunderbolt 3 was the issue, but i can't tell if it is. For the probleme i have i try to reset the battery with the button on the back,
- 30sec push -> don't work with or without the battery.
- uninstal Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
- Take off battery 1 (external).
Unplug AC cord
Hold down power button for 30 seconds to force a hard stop
Turn over T480
Find small hole for paperclip on backside (mine was left center of the back).
Push paperclip in hole and you will feel a switch (click). Hold click down for 30 seconds. This resets battery 2, the internal battery.
Turn T480 back over, plug in AC power cord. Power on laptop. Reinstall battery 1.
You should now find battery charging
version for a t480s of course
Have you any idea ? Maybe a faulty OEM charger ? Maybe the infamous TB3 issue ...
I would have the pleasure to read you later, have a nice day
PS:
My t480s have the latest upgrade possible, bios drivers etc.
HDMI port work fine
USB-C work fine
thunderbolt 3 driver is OK not tested
