T450s not powering on

#1 Post by ProInfoPS » Wed Apr 12, 2023 8:35 am

Hi all.

I have a Thinkpad T450s that has this weird problem.

If i leave it on, it works fine, if i turn it off for over 15 minutes, il will not turn on again untill i do the following.

Remove external battery, unplug internal battery and bios battery for a couple of hours, plug everything back and then it turns on again.

Now, i have tried the holding of the power button with no batteries plugged in and that didn't do anything or even make it quicker to be able to turn it on again, the long period of wait has to be done in order to turn it back on.

I suspect it has something to do with the motherboard but i'm trying my luck here because i don't really wan'T to spend the $$$ to change the MTB.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi

The issue could possibly be a contact problem with one of the batteries.

Can you try with just one battery, internal first, then if the problem persists try with the external battery

Tried all possible combos.

Unless i have ALL batteries unpluged for over 6-8 hours, it won't turn on. But once i do that, i can have all batteries pluged in and it boots, once. If i turn it off... i need to unplug everything for 6-8 hours again.

I tried turning it off with no batteries at all, tried with only bios battery, all the combos you can think off.

Thanks for the help.

if it were me AND i did not want to replace the system board with a used or new one from alibaba (assuming the chicoms have not destroyed that business yet after arresting the founder/owner) or ebay or the entire thinkpad from such notable entities as fakebook marketplace or here on this marketplace, the last thing i would try rather than wait 8 hours is to pull all the batteries, short the main battery plug on the system board, which might drain all the caps faster, make sure the plugs are clean by working them in and out a few times, then try again.. :-)
OR, just never turn it off.. i use an old T-something in my bathroom to talk to a Tanita scale that reports on much more than my weight and has been on for YEARS.. many years.. like about 10 years.. just doing that one job every day..

There's a Reset pinhole (for a paperclip) on the bottom, above the middle front screw.
While powered off, use that.

Tried that, no success.
