Storing a replacement battery

#1 Post by JoelShum » Tue May 09, 2023 9:47 pm

I have a chance to acquire a replacement battery before my current one clunks out. What is the best way to store it for future use?

Partially charged, in a cool and dry place (not in the freezer).
Advised to use it and recharge it at least to 50% every once in a while to prevent deep discharge (which can sometimes kill a battery).

Is there anyway to do so without opening up the laptop though?

If opening it up is a must, what do you suggest? Every year? Six months?

Depends on the laptop. Mine are all old enough to have removable batteries. Most of the new ones don't.

TBH, I wouldn't bother getting a spare battery at all in such a scenario.

It just seems good to have a genuine around when its available rather than some unknown potential junk later. But I understand how impractical it is to to maintain it. The mounting and dismounting can damage the motherboard and the casing is so fragile these days unlike the old TPs where you just unscrew the darn thing. Lenovo tries hard to make these laptops disposable for thier selfish benefit IMO.
