T430 CPU upgrade to i7-3632. Do I need to disable dGPU?

#1 Post by E.T. or Krush Groove » Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:30 am

I just acquired an i7-3632 CPU to upgrade my T430 that has a NVS 5400M dGPU. Should I disable the dGPU in the BIOS and enable the integrated graphics after the upgrade? My concern is that i7 and dGPU running at the same time may raise temps and reduce battery life.

Thanks

I think that won't be necessary. We have a T430 with i7 3632qm and the NVS 5400m, it does not overheat during intensive tasks of video rendering and 3D games. And it is noticeably faster at those tasks than with the original i5 3320m dual core.

The quad-core upgrade will reduce battery life.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

I've been using an i7-3632 for over a year in a T430 without the dGPU and I am fine with the battery life that I get. I was wondering if there is a huge decrease in battery life when using both the i7 and NVS 5400m at the same time. Meaning that it's so bad it's not worth running both.
