T480 backlight

#1 Post by vetdoc » Thu Aug 24, 2023 3:29 pm

Hi

So I spilled about a few ounces of water on top of my T480 thinkpad a week ago. I immediately opened the computer blotted some very small amount of water drops off the MB and let the computer air out for about 5 days. I turned the computer on yesterday and it boots up fine but my scrren is dark. I shined a light on the screen and can see an image on the screen, but the back light is out. Im assuming I probably shorted out the backlight fuse. So I need to identify the backlight fuse or fuses if there is more then one nd test them with a multimeter. Does anyone know which fuses schematically I need to check.
Thanks

Check Hardware Maintenance Manual at lenovo.com in case it gives information.

But Lenovo no longer provides p/ns in the HMM, much diffing required - or perhaps Support can tell you what the fuse is.

Two Backlight Fuses F3 and F7 (both 3A/32V/Fast, ERBRD3R00X) near the LCD-connector JLCD1.
Solder a new one on top of the old one.

Thankyou RBS.

I'll dig out my failed T480 that Loonovo stiffed me on warranty of.

Will look at the fuses, order some if suspect fuse (unsure if ohmeter will work as other circuitry may be connected though shouldn't be).

Price of fuse less than $1 but shipping costs $20 unless I can buy other things at same time.
