T480 won't boot.

#1 Post by hardrock » Fri Nov 03, 2023 4:15 am

I have a t480 I've been using for work for a few years without any issues.

Two days ago, I left it powered on and plugged to the AC adapter at my office. I wanted to use today and, when I got to my desk, the screen was off. I assumed it was sleeping so I starting pushing keys, but it didn't respond, the screen stayed black.

I hold the power button to turn it off completely, it turned off but I cannot turn it back on.

When I press the power button, the power button light and the red case led turns on for about 1 second, also the fan starts spinning. After a second, the lights go off and the fan stops, then, the lights and fan goes on for another second and then stops again. This loop goes on forever. The screen is always black.

I tried the reset pin, I tried removing all batteries and use only AC, I tried with only batteries and without AC, I removed and clean the RAM connectors, I even put new thermal paste on the processor.

Any ideas on what is going on?

Edit: I managed to start it once by pushing like crazy the power button at a very high frequency.

After the lenovo logo I got three lines of text:

Code: Select all

0271: Check Date and Time settings
0251: System CMOS Checksum bad - Default configuration used.

Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter Setup.
I pressed F1 and then the screen got crazy:

If it has a dGPU, that could've died. If not, then it could be the RAM or something.

I'd try the magic reset button hidden in a small hole on bottom.

(Everything in a storm. ;-)
