ThinkPad T470 bios locked

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sat Mar 02, 2024 1:43 am

I got a mint condition ThinkPad T470 from a company liquidation. It showed on sticker Intel Core i7 7600u 2.80ghz. After cleaning off the sticky stickers I powered it on and did the no ram beeps. Opened the bottom and the HDD and ram is gone. HDD would obviously be gone. Luckly the HDD caddy and connector are still there. I removed ram from another machine to test out the T470 and it powers on and boots to the classic bios locked. You can still access the bios info but cannot change anything. I did the cmos remove and reset button but it has supervisor password. I had a T430 that had a bios lock and there was a setup to do it and got it removed. "Can find online" But for the T450+ it has a chip that needs removed "desoldered" and reprogramed. I am wondering if anyone does it on here or if it is worth it with the ones on ebay. They show for $11 - $26 service. There is even videos on youtube how they fix it. You can buy the reprogram machine, but I don't want to invest in it as the price is $$ and I just need it for this machine.

Look for LENOVO BIOS AUTO-PATCHER.
You do the rest.

Looks like you have to do all your own extracting. Getting your bios and such and a reprogrammer. I was wanting to just send the machine to someone to get it removed. A used board with the same i7 7600U as mine is $120.00

It's a lot cheaper to take the finger out and spend less than $10 for a CH341A.

I am going to probably just sell or return the machine. My eyes isn't that good anymore to do soldering. I'd rather just send it to someone for a fee that already has the equipment. If anyone does this just PM me. I live in US. I did find some but most I seen are in the EU and it would cost more than the laptop is worth to ship it.

Here is the laptop I got that was selling the liquidation. It wasn't supposed to have a bios lock. They are seeing if they sent the wrong one as they are selling bios locked ones too.

UPDATE: Well I guess the T470 I got is free. They are giving me full refund and to keep the machine.
