ThinkPad T530 Very little power, Will not power on

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sun Mar 10, 2024 12:42 am

My ThinkPad T530 isn't powering on. I removed the cmos and disc drive, ram and reconnected them. The main battery is removed. When I plug in the machine. the top lid battery icon will flash green like 3 times. If I press the power button it will flash again 3 times and so on if I press it again. I don't see a main reset button like on some thinkpads. I don't know if the changeable AC jack is bad or not and I don't think I have one laying around that will fit T530. I have a SL500 board but I think it maybe a different board connector. But looking online it seems the T530 had some sleep and non-power issues of not turning back on.

From T6x through Tx30 all Thinkpad power-supplies have the same connectors.

As I thought they are different plug types to the board. They may have the same barrel but the plug that goes into the board are different. The SL500 has less connectors then T530.

Did you resolve this? I worked through a pile of T510, T520, T530, W510, W520 machines last year that I bought as a job lot and noted that whilst most have the standard 20V socket, they do not like the low-power PSUs. From memory even the 90W and 135W supplies caused problems, e.g. CPU throttling and screen dimming. It's usual to have a pile of 65W and 90W 20V supplies to hand, but not the higher rated supplies. The 170W supplies are delightful old school bricks

The W520 (and possibly W530?) uses its own modified 20V socket with extra pins to prevent you connecting anything but the corresponding 170W supply.
