New keyboard

#1 Post by tapestry » Mon Aug 12, 2019 12:56 pm

Hello,
Are genuine new UK keyboards for the x230 still available, if so where from please? I presume those on ebay such as this one are not genuine. If not, is it best to avoid those or are they okay?
Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the forum. :)

I've never encountered a non-genuine Thinkpad keyboard, so I'm not even sure they exist.

There was a post on reddit with a Thinkpad keyboard lacking the Trackpoint module, and it's not the 11e or other models for schools. :O
The G,H, & B keys didn't even have the cutouts for the Trackpoint cap.

That eBay 04X1230 is a non-backlit KB made by Chicony.
A better one would be the non-BL 04X1306 by LiteOn.
Alternatively, get a T420/X220 7-row classic keyboard and do the EC-mod for it: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=120776

That's not a Thinkpad keyboard then. :) Or if it is compatible, I am not aware of anyone mass-producing them. Maybe a hobbyist project?

IIRC he bought it from aliexpress or some shady seller. It's probably some counterfeit stuff.

Thanks everyone. My keyboard works fine but is quite worn/shiny from previous owner. May take a chance on an ebay one then. The one I linked to has good feedback on that item and does say Lenovo as the brand. Some other listings say generic / unbranded. It could be that they're just being more truthful though, can't tell.

Thanks again.
