X230 recovery. Help!

The SSD on my x230 has suddenly died I'm now trying to recover from the USB stick that I have, but it won`'t boot. Just errors: "Error loading operating system". Is it the boot record corruped or I'm doing something wrong? I used this stick for recovery once before.
I also could not download the recovery files for the USB recovery creator as my s/n could not be found. Bummer. Maybe someone has the .rmf file for win 7 x64?
Any ideas on what to do?
PS I have the win 8 recovery disks, but prefer win 7.

Check your boot mode in BIOS. If it's UEFI, switch it to Legacy (BIOS) and try again, or vise-versa.

Normally that message means there was no boot sector on any connected disk, or no disks were detected.

Thanks a million for the recovery discs! I’m downloading them now. Can I write them in USB drive, or need to burn DVDs?
I tried changing the boot mode, but it made no difference.

They are DVD images, but you may have success writing them to USB media with a utility like Rufus. I haven't tried it, though.
