Soldering a i7-3612QM on x230? Also quad core useres what are the temps?

#1 Post by phobiak » Sun Sep 22, 2024 1:39 pm

So i was wondering if i were to solder a i7-3612QM on the mainboard would it work with stock bious or would i have to flash coreboot before soldering on the cpu? It is way more expensive and impossible to find the board with i7-3212QM then for me to get cpu and pay someone to solder it. If anyone has done this in the past id appreciate some tips or what should i know in advance.

You want the motherboard with the 3612QE. Since it's a 35w CPU, it should run cooler than the 45w CPUs.

No need for Coreboot if it's the X230.

Flashing Coreboot only applies to the previous generation (T420, T420s, X220, T520, W520) because those models don't have BIOS support for Ivy Bridge (3rd gen Core i3/i5/i7) processors.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
