Hey everybody.
I was planning on purchasing a Thinkpad x220 for university earlier this year, but now the x230 has been released of course I'm now planning on buying that. (before I begin I'd like to state I'm not a thinkpad purist by any stretch, but I've done my research and concluded that the "consumer" laptops such as ultrabooks and things are just not good enough - they're either too big, or not powerful enough and the thinkpad X series appears to have an excellent blend of the two.)

Now, when looking at the X220 and the X220T, I concluded that the X220T was not worth the cool swivelly tablet thing for these reasons:

• Battery life shorter than X220, even with the same battery installed.
• Costed more.
• Weighed more than the normal X220.
• Didn't have any USB3 ports.

There are probably other reasons (I couldn't remember whether the X220T didn't have a thinklight or not, so I left that one out). I was also told that if I wasn't going to do a lot of drawing, the X220 would be perfectly fine. I could also make my mind up from comparing various reviews of the two products.

However, now that the X230 and the X230T have come out, I'm faced with the same dilemma again but it's a bit more difficult: since there are plenty of reviews for the X230, and pretty much none for the X230T, it's harder for me to decide which one would be best for me. There is one review of the X230T but the reviewer isn't very good - nevertheless it still says the touch detection is very inaccurate, which worries me. If I were to get a X230T it would ideally replace notebooks allowing me to have less to carry, plus I could use it to show PDFs of past exam papers without the at-that-time-unneeded keyboard part getting in the way of my exercise book, etc. but inaccurate touch detection would mean my handwriting on the device would suck and I would keep missing buttons and things, pretty much completely defeating the object of having one.

So my question is this... which one should I get? How do they compare? Is the x230T still heavier, more expensive and less battery life than the x230?

Yes. And it will probably never change (not in any number of laptop generations), because of the fundamental requirements of Tablet PCs. The extra parts that are required to make the laptop into a convertible tablet invariably add to size, weight, power consumption and price.

Here's my two cents. I'm making the same decisions. I will choose the X230T over the X230 and over the X1 Carbon, almost certainly.

Currently I go back and forth between an X201T and a T61p. I use the X201T at home 90% of the time, but I go back to the T61p when I forget to bring my X201T home from work.

I miss simple touch actions when I have to go back to the T61p. I find myself trying to scroll with my fingertip on the screen, but it doesn't work.

I think the world is moving to touch. I'm running Win8 Release Preview x64 on the X201. The touch localization on this is definitely better than on Windows 7 Professional x64 even with all the Lenovo enhancements.

My dream machine would have a higher resolution than the current X230 series.

I'm using 2 x201 at home and a x220 currently. My x230t came in last week and I love using it.. I'll see how I like the x230, that's coming tomorrow. one thing I dont like is the touchpad on 220, so far I didn't like it on the 230t so I probably wont like it on the 230, I guess I just need to get use to it.

Like barry said, i do with there are higher res to these, sorta like a mac
