Adding integrated webcam and bluetooth myself?

#1 Post by Brent_ » Sat Jul 07, 2012 2:45 pm

I ordered my X230 without bluetooth or a built-in webcam and promptly changed my mind :P, but it had already been prepared so I couldn't alter my order. I know that on the X220 one could just pick up the webcam part and the bluetooth daughter card and slot them in with little hassle, but after cross-referencing those items with the parts listed on the X230 part number sheet (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... ookup.page), it seems like they're not the same parts. The part number document isn't very specific, so I don't know exactly which part I'd need, and it doesn't seem like any of them are available anyway. Does anyone know if the X220 bluetooth daughter card and integrated camera will fit into the X230 chassis? It seems like it would, but I don't know if I'll run into issues because of potential minor changes. (Plus, I figured that there may be some sort of BIOS whitelist problem, as there may be with some WiFi adapters.)

I appreciate any advice :)

The bluetooth card is easy to install. It doesn't seem to require any separate antenna.
I think the camera requires a separate front bezel - but it turns out that it is not too hard to remove either.

I think the X220 and X230 actually have a little insert that pops out, so it shouldn't require an LCD bezel (I could be wrong though). But what I'm not sure about are the part numbers. Any idea if the X220 parts will work in the X230?
