how do you install a SAMSUNG 830 ssd on a thinkpad x230t?

SAMSUNG 830 Series 2.5-Inch 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7PC256B/WW

http://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-2-5-Inch- ... B0077CR66A

i've used the same desktop for years
never really did anything with hardware before
i've never done this before so i dont know how to do this
so i'm asking for advice

my plan was;
1. back up all my data to my external hard drive
2. back up lenovo recovery partition to 5 d.v.d.'s
3. put in new samsung 830 ssd
4. insert the 5 d.v.d.'s to restore the data
5. move all my data from my external drive onto the ssd

would this work?

corrections or confirmation would help

thank you very much

That is essentially how I upgraded my X220 to the Samsung 830.

If you have a dock, you can get the 2.5 sata bay and stick the drive or the ssd in it and do a ghost/acronis image/clone.

This is usually helpful because you can also use the hdd off the drive bay for backups or additional storage when docked.

I also have a usb to sata adapter that acronis and ghost both recognized and can do image/clone. - cheaper way, like 10-20 for adapter.

My understanding is that cloning a disk like that won't guarantee that the partition(s) are aligned, which is the reason I chose to go the route I did with my X220.
