x230 extra cpu 35wvs45w

#1 Post by sp408 » Mon Sep 24, 2012 11:07 pm

So my friend gave me a intel i7 3610qm cpu which uses the same pin layout as the i5m however it consumes 45w vs the 35w targeted output. I was wondering If I could open up the x230 and swap them out.

Im not worried about the warranty

Im not worried about less battery life

And the cpu was free so im not concerned with price

all I need to know is if it would work in this laptop. My x230 is about a few weeks old so whatever version of it that could be. my power brick is 65w 20v and I have a 4,6, and 9 cell battery

CPUs in the X230 are soldered, not socketed.
