General impressions? How good are the drivers?

I ran the update adviser and it said something about the touch screen not fully meeting some standard.

I've already got the update (I purchased the PC in August)... just trying to get ready to bite the bullet.

I believe Windows 8 requires five touch points while the X230 only has two, which is why it does not meet the standard. I don't know much about Windows 8 and the X230t. I had a chance to review a HP Windows 8 notebook and liked it. The no start button was odd and some stuff was over engineered, but I liked the start screen. As with most new things, it'll take some time to acclimate. If you install it and don't like it, you can always go back to Windows 8. Make sure to make the recovery discs and a back up before you start.

Or if you have a spare drive you could install W8 on it for a test drive. If it does not meet your expectations then you could simply swap out the hard drives and voila- you have W7 back again!

I have both W7 and W8 on separate hard drives

I bought my X230T in early August and never booted the Windows 7 hard drive it came with. Initially I put Windows 8 x64 Release Preview on it, and then on October 26th I installed Windows 8 Pro x64 using the $15.00 coupon. I did a clean install on a 500 gb Crucial SSD drive.

It works great. I do have a message about the two point touch screen, but it doesn't hold me back. It seems to support all the Windows 8 basic gestures described here:

Two things don't work for me yet. 1. I can't get the "black key" just to the right of the microphone mute key to do anything. 2. I tried to activate the Sierra Wireless MC8355 WAN card with the beta versions and it didn't work. I haven't gotten an account for this laptop yet from AT&T so I haven't tackled that project with Windows 8 Pro yet.''

When I bought the X230T, I assumed Lenovo would sell it with Windows 8 after October 26th, but failure to support 5 touch apparently prevents Microsoft from certifying the X230T for Windows 8.

I made the same assumption you did about the x230t and Win8, so I'm disappointed. They should have made it clear that the x230t would NOT be fully compatible. The only reason I didn't wait ungil Win 8 was released was because my x60t unexpectedly died.

They should make it clear on their web site just the implications of 5 point vs 2

Hi, I updated to Win 8 and to be honest I never needed to touch the screen with more than 2 fingers... Everything else seems fully compatible and the latest UEFI BIOS is designed for Windows 8. Since I reinstalled the OS under UEFI even secure boot works.
