X230: how to downgrade BIOS?

I have an X230 (originally shipped with win7 in a mechanical hdd) with windows 8 pro clean installed on an SSD in uEFI / GPT mode. original HDD is removed from system. I use classicshell to bypass the metro start screen, that is until this morning I updated from 2.02 to 2.06 firmware. Now it seems the system disregards classicshell's 'bypass metro start screen' setting, and always starts in metro. this is unacceptable to me.
I find that the metro interface is an abomination, and I want to avoid even the tiniest reminder that it exists.
I want to try downgrading to the 2.02 bios to see if that fixes this problem, but when I run the 2.02 installer it now says that 'The BIOS image does not match this system' ... does anyone know how to trick it into installing the bios? can I install an older bios version than that and keep compatibility with windows 8 gpt/efi?
on the good side, the 2.06 update replaces the funky windows8 starting animation with a just plain 'lenovo' screen, that is nice.
