X230 screen upgrade?
X230 screen upgrade?
I'm new, so I apologize if this gets asked a lot.
Are there any HD+ or even HD 1080 screens I could put in my X230?
I might be willing to sacrifice my IPS panel for an HD 1080 screen but at HD+ I would still want IPS.

Re: X230 screen upgrade?
It doesn't get asked a lot, more complaints about the lack of 1080 screens. To the best of my knowledge, there are no 12.5" 1080 LCDs, IPS or not. If you want a smaller ThinkPad with a IPS 1080 IPS, the ThinkPad Helix looks like the best option. It's due late in the summer and looks expensive, starting at $1,500 at least until they offer coupons.
There's of course other 1080 options like the Asus ZenBook, Surface Pro and/or Acer S7 if you really want a small 1080 notebook.

I think you misunderstand. I have an X230 already, I want to buy a better screen aftermarket, possibly from another laptop.ZaZ wrote:It doesn't get asked a lot, more complaints about the lack of 1080 screens. I know the Dell XPS12 has a 12.5" 1080p screen, but it's a touchscreen and definitely won't fit in place of my current screen.
Re: X230 screen upgrade?
Ah, yes, I completely forgot about the Dell. I would say it's unusual for one notebook screen to work in another notebook. There's been some chatter on this topic, but I don't recall anyone getting serious about doing it. In addition to being a tablet screen, there's lot of other question marks that need to be addressed like do they use the same connectors, will the X230 accept a 1080, if you can remove the tablet surface will it fit, etc.? If you want to do this, you may have to be the guinea pig.

Re: X230 screen upgrade?
Panasonic's CF-NX1, CF-NX2, CF-SX1 and CF-SX2 are all 12.5" 1600x900. The screen could be compatible with the X230 but I don't know of anyone who has tried. If you don't mind having a keyboard with Japanese characters (in addition to English keys), the cheapest of these is now $1,166.30 on Conics: http://shop.conics.net/index.php/comput ... sonic.html
Dell just started to offer a 1080p option for the XPS 13 as well. Personally, I dislike scaling Windows elements and so I always stick with the default scaling setting, at which 1920x1080 on 13.3" would be a bit too high, and on 12.5" 1080p would be even worse. I really think 1600x900 is the sweet spot for 12.5", although on 13.3", 1680x945 would be better than 1600x900.ZaZ wrote:There's of course other 1080 options like the Asus ZenBook, Surface Pro and/or Acer S7 if you really want a small 1080 notebook.

Re: X230 screen upgrade?
That's interesting about the Dell. I reviewed the XPS 13 last year. I liked it quite a bit, but the screen was sub par, but even worse, the Gorilla Glass was highly reflective, making it worse than some glossy screens. I'd agree, FHD is too high for any notebook under 15", my opinion of course. I think the perfect notebook, at least for me anyway, would be a 13.3" SXGA+ IPS/AFFS/PVA with a mSATA and 9.5mm drives. I don't need an optical drive. Maybe 3.5-4 pounds with battery. Pointstick with buttons goes without saying.
