egpu for x230 tablet

#1 Post by campanella » Sat Mar 09, 2013 4:12 am

Hello.

I am a newbie here. I am reading posts to make eGPU for my Thinkpad X230 Tablet. Recently I decided to buy this graphic card:
Shapphire Randeon HD 7950
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 006&cm_sp=

Is it a good purchase for my eGPU? I bought it, honestly, because it is in a promotion period. How much performance I can get with the card? Will I have any bottleneck, incompatibility with my card?

The card support PCI Express 3.0. I tried to find the PCI express information on my Thinkpad. Could anyone confirm that Thinkpad X230 Tablet comes with PCI Express 3.0 or 2.0?

Thanks

ATI cards will bottleneck on the PCIe bus, vs Nvidia cards which can compress the bus and effectively get 4x PCI-E

And it's only 2.0.

Also beware, you can't put more than 8gb of ram in and still use an eGPU.
