F11 recovery function not working after windows 8 upgrade

I upgraded (not clean install) my thinkpad x230 from Win 7 Pro to Win 8 pro. I didnt touch my recovery partition in the process. Now I want to roll back to my original Os through recovery partition. i tried, F11 recovery option it directly wen into log on screen.

Though I have recovery discs, anyone can tell me what went wrong with the installation that messed my recovery partition.
