integrated camera is HD yet only allows 640x480 snapshots?
The integrated camera on the X230 is supposedly 720p, meaning it should be capable of 1280×720 resolution. However, if I use Fn-F6 to open the Communication Utility to take a snapshot, the only resolution available is 640x480. I can't find any option to change this to a different resolution. Anyone know if this is possible, since it *should* be possible to take a 1280x720 snapshot with the camera?

What version of Lenovo Communications Utility do you have?
When I do Fn+F6 a GUI called 'Communications Settings' appears. There is the little preview box of the camera image, mic volume slider, button for 'Take a snapshot,' and a button for 'Manage settings.'
I click on 'Manage settings' and a GUI called 'Communications Utility' opens and I have more options to fine tune image processing as well as 'VoIP settings.' The 'Take a snapshot' button has options for 'size' resolution. There are 320X240, 640X480, 800X600, 1024X600, 10X24X768, 1280X800, and 1280X1024. Not sure but this might be the feature you are looking for?
The Lenovo Communications Utility version I have installed on my ThinkPad is 2.09.

Thanks for your detailed reply. That sounds exactly like what I'm looking for - but it's not there. No button for size or resolution. There are sliders for brightness and contrast, and an Advanced button which brings up a window with plenty more image settings, but none of them are for resolution. I guess it must have been left out of the new version for whatever stupid reason: I'm using 3.0.42.0.
I guess if I want a fix it's a matter of finding the older 2.x version. Does Lenovo keep older versions on their site? I don't remember seeing any.

If you type in 'Lenovo Communications Utility 2.09' into your web browser search bar you might find it. HOWEVER I strongly suggest downloading ONLY the driver from Lenovo Support. I see drivers from other sites but in this day and age I would not trust outside sources for the program.
You might need to install the older version in compatibility mode if you are currently using W8. What this means is when you have finished downloading the exe you will right click on the exe and set the compatibility for W7 or choose 'Troubleshoot compatibility.'
I am using W7 currently so I forget what options you would see in W8 for setting compatibility mode. If you already know what to do-
Wonderful
Good luck
Edit: with some digging around I found the exe on my flashdrive. I could get it to you if you prefer?

Thanks for digging! I actually found version 2.10 on Lenovo's site here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... D=DS015009
Installed that, rebooted and sure enough, I now have the option to change the snapshot resolution. Just goes to show that newer versions aren't always better.
Thanks for all your help!
