1 TB 7mm hard drive

#1 Post by miketl » Wed Jun 26, 2013 12:03 pm

Western Digital recently announced a 1 TB 7mm hard drive (model WD10SPCX) that should fit into the X230 without modifications:

I've been on the lookout for this drive, but nobody seems to have it in stock yet. This Ebay auction just turned up in a search, however:

Not trying to promote this seller, but I've been unable to find this drive anywhere else. I ordered one. Will make another post if/when the disk arrives and note how well it works with the X230.

I think I'll wait for a more reasonable price, but good to know you can get it. Please do post back.

The drive arrived today. It fit perfectly and took all of 2 minutes to swap in for the 128 GB SSD that came with the laptop. :-) My initial concern was with the fit; time will tell how reliable it is. It will be nice to have more room to breathe! I'm booting off a 256 GB MSATA SSD and will try to keep the essentials on that drive to conserve power, but now will have more space when needed for larger files, virtual machine images, backups, etc.

Looks like some web stores are starting to show this disk in stock: https://www.google.com/shopping/product ... q=wd10spcx

How's the heat, noise and vibration?

I saw other stores were offering it, but I think I'll wait for $99 before make the jump.

No real heat, noise or vibration to speak of. I can't even tell that it's running.
