Is it possible to make x230 charge a non-genuine battery

#1 Post by shaMMbler » Fri Sep 06, 2013 5:08 pm

Hello!
I was wondering is there any way to use a non-genuine battery in my Lenovo Thinkpad x230. I have one, but the laptop warns me during bootup sequence that it will not charge this battery. It doesn't charge it even when the machine is off and the AC adapter is plugged in.
Has anyone tried this?

Lenovo batteries are now chipped and I don't believe third party batteries will work until some finds a way around it.

I can confirm this. The X220 will take 3rd party batteries, but as of now the X230 is limited to genuine Lenovo.

I have faith some manufacturer will find a work around, it's just a matter of when.
