x230t upgrad from twist

I bought a cheap twist (i5, 500gb drive, 4gb ram, win
a few months back off outlet for $460, a good buy. But am considering upgrading to an x230t. I've had an x60s (best laptop I've ever owned) and an x200, which I have come to like and prefer over the twist.
I'm not happy with inbuilt battery (poor life) and non-upgradable Ram and miss the old ease of replacing hard drives/ram/batteries with previous x series. I don't like the touch pad much on twist (sticky, slow, imprecise) and find the reach to button now forces me to rely on pad which lacks the precision of button. I can live with the chicklet keyboard, but miss the old x series feel.
I'd like to use a pen on tablet, so x230t seems an obvious choice. Is handwriting recognition accurate?
But biggest issue is the rotation problems on twist. It was bad a few months ago and I followed recs on how to fix this, which worked temporarily. But I'm still finding occasional problems with it having a mind of its own, going to portrait when not in tablet mode, and not righting itself automatically. So tend to lock screen in now manually. new promised bio upgrade is supposed to fix this mid-oct, but who knows?
first question is has anyone had same rotation problems with x230t that have been endemic on twist?
second, is everyone happy with hardware upgrading or experienced issues with this?
3rd, multi-touch on twist has been good, how well does win 8 and multitouch work on x230t?
