USB 3.0 Blu-ray DVD player freezing Explorer on wake-up.

ThinkPad X230
My new USB 3.0 Blu-ray DVD player is causing Internet Explorer 9 to hang on wake-up.
If I unplug the drive, things work fine again without a restart or event messages.
The drive is a MATSHITA BD-MLT UJ265 USB device, which works great until my ThinkPad
goes to sleep (not hibernate).
After some trouble-shooting I thought it might be a hardware problem and exchanged
the drive for another brand new one. Unfortunately I still have the same problem.
(Pawtec UltraSlim External USB 3.0 Slot-Loading BDXL 3D Blu-Ray Writer/Burner)
My Thinkpad is an X230 (2306CTO) which runs Win7 64bit Pro with the latest updates.
I also use the latest VLC Player, AnyDVD software, iTunes and Quicktime Pro.
I followed every possible instruction I could find on the Microsoft support sites and
other forums. I updated all drivers, un-installed and re-installed them, tried the other
USB 3.0 port, and also disabled USB selective suspend.
I have not touched the registry files and played with the upper and lower filters, or
upgraded to Internet Explorer 10.
Another USB 2.0 DVD only drive I have works without any problems.
Everything else on my Thinkpad runs perfectly fine and watching Blu-ray movies on it
is a treat for the ears and eyes.
Here is what it shows under driver details (Device manager) for this Blu-ray drive:
Microsoft Driver Version 6.1.7601.17514 (Driver Date 6/21/2006)
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\AnyDVD.sys (SlySoft Version 7.2.3.3)
C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys (Microsoft Version 6.1.7600.16385)
C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\GEARAspiWDM.sys (GEAR Software Version 2.02.03.00)
Does anyone know what causes this problem and how I can fix it? I have already
spent endless hours researching it but have not found a solution.
What am I overlooking? What else could I try?
Thanks for any help.
