Just bought a new (to me) X230

Hi All,

I'm back with another Thinkpad after selling my X201 earlier in the year. I have bought an X230 i5 with the IPS screen (so much better than the TN). The previous owner has put a 128GB mSATA card in and I am using this as my primary boot device with the 320GB sata being used to store photos movies and music.

I have some quick questions for those with a backlit keyboard, I have the chance to get a new one for a very reasonable price, is it worth it? do you use yours all the time or only in dark environments? does it drain the battery more? (probably does being lit)

Overall I am really happy with my new Machine but being me I am hankering over modding it to my spec, looking at a fingerprint palm rest too but having had a fingerprint reader on my old X61 all I ever used it for was unlocking windows, so can't really convince myself on getting it yet.

I will update with a full spec later.

Your X230 already has the ThinkLight, which serves much the same purpose and using it won't cost you anything.

True I'm using it now to type this. I might just use it like this and see about getting the backlit keyboard at a later date.

Thanks,

Given in to temptation and picked up a new Backlit keyboard and Finger print palmrest. Will update with pictures once installed.

IMO it's different than the thinklight, and I like that you can have both. I find that the thinklight is better when I need to read from something else, such as a credit card or a paper document, and the backlit keys are better for general typing in the dark. I really can't see any perceptible difference in battery life with either.
