x230 Laptop BIOS Recovery from Update Failure

I have a Thinkpad x230 laptop and updated the bios through the lenovo tools. After the bios flash the computer would not boot. When pressing the power button the power light turns on and the camera light flashes. Nothing else. No sounds. I have been trying various permutations of the WINCRISIS tool using a USB stick. I have tried both FN-B and WIN-B keys while pressing the power button. The USB drives light flashes once when the power button is pushed, but nothing else. Under some conditions I get the laptop to beep 8 times (pressing two keys for a while as the power is pressed with no battery). I have been trying something like this:

Is there anyone with experience recovering the bios on an x230? Any advice? This expensive laptop, one month off guarantee, is now a brick.
