Fingerprint reader and service problems

#1 Post by stuartf » Wed Feb 26, 2014 6:09 pm

X230 2325-5SU, IPs screen,

I installed a Msata drive in it when I got in in August (ADATA x300) which failed three months later. I couldn't get it replaced until January and in the meantime I was running a linux (Mint 15) OS on the spinner, which never was able to see the fingerprint reader. I assumed it was the OS.

In January I get the new Msata, install Windows 7 from Lenovo supplied disks and still no fingerprint reader. I was on the road again and it about three weeks ago I called lenovo, they sent me two incorrect palmrests in an attempt to repair the problem, so I finally sent it in to them. Quick turn around as usual but when I reinstall the Msata (I took it out to send them as well as the spinner) and boot it, no fingerprint reader is found. I spend an hour os so on the phone with Tech support, updating this and that to no avail . I remove the keyboard to be sure that the ribbon from the palmrest was seated, it was (the trackpoint was working fine although it us usually disabled on my machines.)

The repair sheet from Lenovo states that they replaced the palmrest, the fingerprint reader module AND the motherboard(!) Now it looks like I need to send it back to them again (I bought an ASUS 720 Chromebook to tide me over during this period, not a bad option).

1)I likely will send it in with the msata module in it but wonder if that field replaced addition raises suspicions.
2) Are there other things I should investigate before packing it back up for repair?

Any guidance is appreciated,
T23, X32 (2672-A43), T43 (2687D4U)
