X230 shutdown anomaly?

#1 Post by siLc » Sun Mar 16, 2014 4:43 am

Hi,

I have a X230 2325-VKY running Win8.1 and the latest 2.59 BIOS. The HDD has been replaced with 120GB Samsung 840EVO with RAPID mode enabled. Everything is running fine but one thing kind of bugs me - when shutting down, it proceeds to shut down as usual but when the screen goes blank, the power button and sleep symbol flash for some 5-10 seconds and then it shuts down for real. When powering on again, Win8.1 loads as usual (not coming out of sleep nor hibernation). Can someone tell me why the button/sleep symbol is blinking at that point?

My x230t (x230 Tablet) exhibits the same behavior whenever I invoke Sleep mode or shut it down.

I imagine that the system is still terminating remaining services/processes and other drivers after the screen goes black. On my system, this behavior lasts only 6-7 seconds, so your x230 may be running more services/processes and drivers than my machine.

If you are not already doing so, try closing all open applications (browser, Office, etc.) before entering Sleep mode or shutting down. This might reduce the 'annoying' behavior, though it kind of defeats the purpose of invoking Sleep mode, specifically.
