I was looking at the Seiki 4K displays and salivating a bit. I just got a x230 as a personal laptop and was wondering if there's any chance of being able to drive the 4K screen from the DisplayPort at 30hz. The amount of data should be similar to driving 2 FullHD screens at 60hz, which I've seen people report is possible so I figure there's an outside chance this is actually possible. I'd be doing this in Linux so patching the driver is always a possibility if it's just a software limitation. Anyone have any pointers?

Userguide says 2560x1600... but then again it wouldn't be the first time Lenovo said something wrong. 2560x1600 @ 60Hz should be about equal in data to 3840x2160 @ 30 Hz

Yes it could be that they just didn't test above 2560x1600.
However this seems to indicate that is a limit of the Intel GPU:

But lead_org says this:
"Correction: The T430s can support 4K@60 hz when two displayports are used. If using only one displayport, 4K resolution can be achieved only when you have a refresh rate of lower than 30 hz. "

Which seems to be confirmed by this from a 4k monitor review (although it doesn't mention the 30Hz option):
"Intel's current HD 4000 graphics can support 4K output with the most recent graphics drivers, but only on laptops and motherboards with a pair of DisplayPort outputs (a relative rarity in systems that rely on integrated graphics)."

Current gen (Haswell) can supposedly do this (copied from someone who says it is from Intel but didn't post a link):

DisplayPort* 1.2 / eDP*

H-Processors: 3840 x 2160@60Hz
(Ultra-HD)
U-Processors: 3200 x 2000
@60 Hz, 3840x2160@30Hz
Y-Processors: 2560 x 1600
@ 60 Hz

HDMI* 4096 x 2304, 3840x2160 @ 24Hz / 24bpp

DVI 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz

A friend of mine user a Dell 4k monitor with his X230 for a while and it worked fine via DP, at 30Hz though.
