Reset Thinkpad X240

#1 Post by haenlein » Tue May 20, 2014 2:39 am

Dear all,

I have received a new Thinkpad X240 on which sombody has installed a list of programs I would like to get rid of. Since I did not yet put any data on the X240, I would like to reset it to factory settings. However, I cannot find the ThinkVantage button that I have on my X220 and that I can use for this purpose. Does anyone know how a reset is possible? Ideally I would want the PC to reset so that there is only a plain version of Windows on it

Another issue is that my version of Windows 7 is currently in French vs. English. But I hope to be able to solve this once the PC has been reset.

Thanks for your help in advance and best wishes,

Michael

Welcome to the Forum.
Te reinstall to factory standard, press F11 a few times at bootup.
That will get you into Recovery & Rescue.
Also, download the userguide here: http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/con ... _ug_en.pdf
R&R on page 55.
If you have W7 Ultimate, you can select and change a language any time.
If your Recovery partition contains W7-Pro or W7-Home you only have that R&R language.
You'd need to get Recovery CDs in your required language from: https://www.lenovorecovery.com/Extranet/Questions.aspx
But before you do anything else, create a set of recovery disks from your current install.
Read the above userguide.
