Query regarding Hard Disk Upgrade for X230T

#1 Post by trex21 » Fri Jun 20, 2014 5:12 pm

Hi everyone

My post here so apologies if any mistake. I have a x230T model 3434-CTO (quite old one :P )

It has 180 GB SSD drive which is quite less and I am planning to upgrade it with a bigger capacity SSD. I researched and found my options are

1) Normal SATA III SSD like samsung 840 evo
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electroni ... B00E3W1726

2) mSATA SSD like Samsung MZMTE512HMHP 512 GB mSATA SSD Solid Slate Drive Mini PCI-E mSATA
http://www.amazon.com/PM851-Internal-So ... B00HWI56DE

I am not a hardware expert and need guidance from the members here .My query are these 2 ssd types compatible with my X230 model type (x230T model 3434-CTO )and is there any specification of ssd I should keep in mind while placing the order. ?

I am planning to buy the mSATA 512 GB one and I already have the 180GB normal intel SSD on the laptop.

Regards
trex

Welcome to the forum!

The SSD/HDD in the "main" bay needs to be 7mm, that's one thing to bear in mind.

As for the mSATA - you can choose whichever one you want - and your current choice seems like a reasonable one, although I've never personally used the drive in question.

FWIW, I have an 80GB Intel mSATA in my X220T as a boot drive, and a 500GB conventional HDD in the "main" bay for data.

Happy upgrading.

WD also makes a 7mm 1TB drive that fits the X230 if you need more space. Probably more cost effective too.
