Does anyone have any opinions on the 12.5 FHD (1920x1080) Touch screen display on the X240? I have one to play with for the weekend and am trying to get used to it. It looks sharp, but I'm wondering if people over time find the resolution too high for the small screen. If the prices were the same, which screen would you pick?

Honestly, I wouldn't even now. I'm saving up for a HD X240 because it is cheap, but if the prices were the same, I probably still wouldn't take the FHD, simply because you get 2 hours of battery life more on the HD display. That being said, the FHD is tempting, but I can't really decide myself. I wouldn't worry about small text, just scale it up if necessary.

If you really plan on touching the screen while in desktop mode, you would need some extreme scaling so that icons and text are big enough for your finger tip. Last week, I played with a Lenovo Lynx K3011 tablet, which has an 11.6" 1366x768 screen. Things were easy to see because of the low pixel density, but they were too small to be accurately manipulated by my fingers (which aren't particularly fat, by the way). So, I had to scale up to 125%. On a 12.5" FHD screen, you may have to scale to at least 150%. When you have to scale that much, you lose quite a bit of real estate. Also, some programs (e.g. Photoshop) don't scale properly, resulting in funky text, fuzzy graphics and/or absurdly small menus.

I had the X240 in touch FHD and loved the resolution. I only got rid of it because now I'm rocking the X240s non-touch FHD and it's an awesome resolution for 12.5 inches. With no scaling applied I feel like it is the perfect resolution for this size. I used to have the X201s with 1440x900 and felt like on a 12.1" screen it was OK but wanted higher, this is the first generation that Lenovo finally offers decent screens - thank god.

What is the resolution on the non-touch FHD?

FHD = 1080p = 1920x1080

The panel is not for sale typically in the US. But while it was formerly a rare component it seems that a bunch of sellers on eBay finally have the panel and you can replace a non-touch screen with a FHD non-touch screen, the upgrade is simple but you need to be careful when upgrading.

The part is 00HM111 and I see a few on eBay around the 170$ mark. That's almost twice what I paid (I paid 91$).
