Add smart card reader to X240?

I bought a very well-spec'd X240 on closeout at a super price. It has 180GB SSD, 8GB RAM, fingerprint reader and the IPS (non-touch) display for $900. Only problem is that I need a smart card reader and hate USB add-ons when a built-in solution is available. Mine has the marking and the slot, only there is a plastic filler in the slot instead of the reader hardware.

Any idea how to add, or if its even possible?

My guess would be "yes", based upon what I can find online:

http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkP ... 150530.pdf Build Of Materials (BOM) for X240
Smart card reader and cable are listed as separate FRUs

I would download the HMM for the X240 to confirm that you don't need anything else (such as a different planar). I'd do it myself but it's a ~40MB file and I'm on a slow hotspot:
