Fan just stop working after a while..?!

#1 Post by goji » Sun Mar 22, 2015 9:57 pm

Title says it all.. Not sure what trigger this, but right now it just happened, for the second time. How i noticed? Well, like 1st time, tpfancontrol icon turned red, going above 80C°.. Last time, after few reboots, fan worked again. Guess it'll be same this time. Not safe to let laptop run this way! Do you have an idea where it could come from? Maybe not the fan..

Overheating, dust bunnies in the fan, running the machine with the air-inlets covered, etc.

I think the unit was cleaned recently, so dust if out of question. Of course air-inlets aren't covered. Lastly, i'm not sure what "overheating" means here.. Overheating would kill the fan..? Can you explain that please?!

#1 is the fan spinning when this happens?
#2 was the heatsink assembly removed during cleaning?
#3 does the fan make any unusual noise during operation?
