So, now 16GB is officially supported. I'm wondering what that means - can I get any old 16GB sodimm module and put it in there? I know there are some intelligent 16GB sticks that are PC1333, but I'm wondering if I can get a stick that's PC1600.

If I'm not mistaken, 1600MHz modules do not work on Broadwell Laptops. They work fine on AMD machines though.

Perhaps Lenovo will add a second memory slot in the x260 (like they HAD in the x230)?
These 16GB modules are terribly expensive---and to pay that much just to have single channel memory is ridiculous.

Crucial shows DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) and DDR3-1866 (PC3-14900) modules if you search for Thinkpad X250 memory.

I wouldn't count on that turn of events what-so-ever...I mean, they started soldering the RAM on T series which has never been the case in the past...prior to *40 generation, that is.

Yeah, you can´t count on it of course. But, taking in that Lenovo went back with the T450 to having 2 RAM slots, compared with the T440, and also said they would listen more closely to customer feedback (which was the case with the 2 DIMM slots of the T450, the return of the TrackPoint buttons and the discontinuation of the Adaptive Keyboard on the X1 Carbon), I would say that there is a chance that Lenovo might go back to having 2 DIMM slots with the X260 as well - we will see in a few months I guess...

It sounds to me like they are aware of the issue.

8 GB modules were also very expensive when they first came out, today they are pretty affordable. I think the same will happen with 16 GB modules in due time.

Although since we're starting to move to DDR4 memory prices on DDR3 may stop dropping significantly as memory manufacturers shift their production to the new standard.
