Solved: X230T and a Kingspec SSD

Hello,

I consider using an existing Kingspec KSM-SMP.5-128MJ as Bootdrive for my "new" X230T. But:

The SSD- card in the WWAN-slot is not seen / recognized / what so ever.

What's wrong:
Are there changes in the BIOS-setup to be done?
Are there drivers from Intel, that have to be installed?

Any hint and help is welcome... Thanks in advance

No. I presume that you can't "see" the drive in BIOS either?

No.

Hello ajkula66

You are right (no drivers from Intel, I didn't find any, as the drive is invisible) and You are right... (not shown in Bios, not shown in Windows 8.1)

so it is the wrong "kind" of SSD ... or is it a fake?

as far as I know, that ssd is not recommended for your thinkpad
try to get another one from well-recognized brand, such as Crucial, Samsung, Intel :)

or try to use that ssd on another device : GPS, tablet or any device with slow processor :)

just my 0.002 cents :)

I hope I have understood by now, what went wrong:

the KingSpec SSD is a mini-PCI-E-SSD, that seems to be aimed at Asus eepc.
So, the Chip will not be recognised as it is not intended for the kind of slot in these Thinkpads.

Will mSATA work in the WWAN-Slot?
ANy clues welcome, I ll have to wait.

thanks ajkula66,

as You state, using some missleading (?) interpretation:

knowledge is a (...) friend ... ... if You make use of it...
... sometimes reading and being precise just helps, too...

You are very welcome, Mein Freund...

I've had good experiences with Plextor M6M SSD in my *20 series units and see absolutely no reason why they would perform any worse in a *30 series machine.

If these are costly/difficult to obtain, a Crucial SSD - any apart from M500, really - would also get my recommendation.

Happy upgrading.
